Overview
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Nouadhibou has established a flagship program titled "Sociology of Migrations and Population Movements" (2MP), focused on analyzing the lasting contact situations between groups of diverse origins, driven by migration and internal population mobility.
The program is designed for students wishing to understand social, legal and territorial transformations in Mauritania and the Saharan region, and to equip them to intervene with public institutions, local authorities, NGOs and private development operators.
Main program
Sociology of Migrations and Population Movements (2MP)
FSHS's flagship program, 2MP trains specialists in internal and external migratory dynamics, territorial mobility, land issues and integration policies. It combines sociology, law, geography, economics and field-research methodologies.
Educational and scientific objectives
- Analyze demographic transformations driven by internal migrations
- Acquire specific skills in the field of migration
- Master legal issues related to the reception and integration of foreigners in Mauritania, mobile populations and migration in general
- Produce knowledge on public institutions, local authorities, associations, NGOs and unions managing migration flows
- Identify and address issues related to internal and external migration and their relationship with land
- Highlight the relationships between migration, gender, development and local authorities
- Familiarize students with the foundational theoretical and legal corpus of migratory and territorial processes
- Follow the latest research advances in the field
- Refer to the social, geographical, economic and political realities of the national territory
- Master the concepts, explanatory schemes and theories of migration and land studies in Mauritania and beyond
- Acquire methodological tools for data collection and processing (field surveys)
- Conduct documentary, statistical and discourse analyses applied to migration
