UNDB Campus

A university at the heart of national development

The University of Nouadhibou (UNDB) is part of Mauritania’s national drive to reform and decentralize higher education. Its creation responds to the strategic 2030 orientations aimed at diversifying the training offer, improving the employability of graduates and adapting higher education to the specific needs of the regions. Between 2019 and 2024, Mauritania recorded a 52% increase in the number of students enrolled in higher education, reinforcing the need to create new university hubs capable of absorbing this growth while supporting regional development.

The choice of Nouadhibou is based on its strategic importance. As the country’s second city and its main fishing and export port, it is a pillar of the national economy. Its port facilitates the export of iron ore and fishery products. The city also benefits from significant mining resources, free zones attractive to investors, and a privileged geographical position between sub-Saharan Africa and Europe, strengthening its logistical and commercial role. Locating the university in this context makes it possible to align academic training with local economic realities.

Established by decree No. 066-2025 of May 23, 2025, UNDB is a public administrative institution with pedagogical, scientific, cultural, administrative and financial autonomy. Its main missions are to contribute to strengthening the Mauritanian identity, to provide initial and continuing education in various fields, to promote the professional integration of students through programs adapted to the country’s needs, and to foster scientific research and technological innovation.
